What Gives Shampoos a Thick Consistency?

If you typically use drugstore shampoos, you might be accustomed to a thick consistency and a great lather. If you make the switch to a professional, salon-quality, high-end shampoo such as ROXDOLL Cosmetics, you will notice the consistency is thinner than a drugstore shampoo. The thick consistency in a drugstore or low-end shampoo comes from Sodium Chloride (salt), which is added to drugstore shampoos and conditioners that contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (sulfate), to make them thicker.

Sodium Chloride (salt) is commonly found in drugstore shampoos because it makes shampoos and conditioners thicker in consistency, however, it strips out natural oils and moisture from the hair causing the hair to dry out. Sodium Chloride (salt) can also dry out the scalp and cause it to itch. Sodium Chloride (salt) will eventually lead to hair loss, it will cause hair color to fade, and can also cause eye irritation or burning. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (sulfate) is also commonly found in drugstore shampoos because it is an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent (that's where the lather comes from). However, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is known to cause skin irritation and like Sodium Chloride, will strip the hair and scalp of its natural oils, creating frizz, and dullness, and it can also fade hair color. Not to worry, ALL our ROXDOLL Cosmetics shampoos and conditioners are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate free (sulfate-free) and Sodium Chloride (salt) free. This is why our shampoos are thinner and create less of a lather than drugstore shampoos that contain sulfates and salt.

All ROXDOLL Cosmetics shampoos are aloe vera based with highly concentrated ingredients that do not damage hair, irritate the scalp or skin, and certainly do not lead to hair loss or color fading! Instead, ROXDOLL Cosmetics shampoos are formulated to create a healthy scalp environment for healthy hair to grow. Since our shampoos are highly concentrated, a little goes a long way! The ingredients in our shampoos may separate, so give the bottle a shake before each use, but don't expect a thick consistency!
